Starting July 10, 2025, Instagram is taking a significant step by automatically enabling search engine indexing for public content from professional accounts. This pivotal change means photos and videos posted publicly by creators and businesses can now be discovered through major search engines like Google.
But what does this mean specifically for B2B companies?
Expanding Your B2B Visibility
With Instagram’s new indexing capability, the landscape expands dramatically, providing B2B businesses a new avenue to showcase their content and expertise directly in Google’s search results. Companies that have previously underestimated Instagram’s role in their marketing mix may need to rethink their strategies.
Embracing Instagram SEO
Instagram SEO now becomes essential. Businesses should strategically use relevant keywords within captions, hashtags, and alt texts to boost visibility. Crafting well-optimized content can significantly enhance the likelihood of appearing prominently in external search results, driving organic traffic from users who might not even have an Instagram account.
Leveraging Multimodal SEO
Google continues to integrate multimedia content from diverse platforms—including short-form video channels like Instagram and TikTok—into its search results. This multimodal approach emphasizes the growing necessity for B2B companies to diversify their content formats, combining visual appeal with informative messaging tailored to external search visibility.
Bella Roebuck, senior social and outreach executive at Manchester agency Banc, said “businesses can get ready for the change by taking some key steps,” including:
- Optimize Instagram content for SEO, using relevant keywords and alt text.
- Make sure hashtags are searchable and align with your brand.
- Create imagery and copy that fit with your brand’s keywords.
- Create web pages to support Instagram content.
- Audit existing content and consider removing or updating anything that is no longer on-message.
Balancing Visibility and Control
With automatic indexing activated by default, B2B brands must evaluate their content strategies carefully. While increased visibility can drive valuable leads and elevate brand awareness, it’s essential to ensure all publicly shared content aligns with brand values and professional standards. Businesses maintain control, however, and can opt-out by adjusting account privacy settings or switching back to a personal account if desired. See the appendix below.
Remember, removing content from search engines after it’s been indexed can be more difficult as content is cached and stored.
Practical Actions for B2B Companies
To leverage this change effectively:
- Audit Existing Content: Review and optimize existing posts for SEO relevance.
- Strategic Keyword Integration: Incorporate well-researched keywords in captions, hashtags, and alt texts.
- Content Quality and Relevance: Prioritize high-quality, industry-relevant content that appeals to your target audience on external search platforms.
- Monitor Analytics: Track changes in web traffic and lead generation attributable to this indexing change.
Significant Opportunity
Instagram’s integration into broader search results offers significant opportunities for B2B companies to enhance visibility, connect with broader audiences, and ultimately drive growth through strategic content optimization and careful visibility management.

Appendix – How to Opt-Out
How to opt out of having your public content appear in search engine results:
- Go to Instagram Settings and Activity.
- Find Account privacy.
- Turn off “Allow public photos and videos to appear in search engine results”.
You can also opt out by:
- Setting your professional account to private.
- Switching from your professional account to a personal account.
Regarding opting out of Meta AI using your public content:
- For users in the U.S., there is not currently a way to completely prevent Meta AI from learning from your public social media posts due to the lack of specific privacy laws.
- However, Meta has provided in-platform tools that allow users to delete personal information from chats with Meta AI within their apps.
- Users in the EU, Britain, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland were notified that they could opt out through their Meta Privacy Center settings.
- For users in the UK and EU, you can find information on opting out of Meta AI training by going to your Instagram profile, tapping the three lines in the top-right corner, selecting Settings and privacy, then About, then Privacy policy, where you’ll find a link labeled “Learn more about your right to object”.
Note:
- Opting out of search engine indexing can help prevent your content from being found off the Instagram platform through search engines like Google.
- However, removing content from search engines after it’s been indexed can be more difficult as content is cached and stored.
- Setting your account to private or switching to a personal account will also impact who can see your content within the Instagram platform.
- While you can opt out of Meta AI directly using your data, you cannot fully control how your data is shared or used by others in public content.
